Malting news USA: Market conditions make Cargill Malt shut down the Jefferson Junction plant

As a result of poor market conditions, Cargill Malt intends to shut down its local plant in October 2005.The officials of malting company told the employees this week about the plant closure at the Jefferson Junction plant, according to Associated Press. They said they would try to assist the 74 workers of the plant to be closed, in finding new jobs.

"This was a difficult decision to make, given the commitment of our employees, but while we tried to find a long-term solution, we can no longer continue operating at a significant financial loss to our business," Cargill Malt president Doug Eden stated.

The company spokeswoman Lori Fligge specified that the with weak demand for malt plus an oversupply of it made the company to close the plant which produced about 180,000 metric tons of malt a year.
